Forty-two years have passed since the Restored United States emerged from decades of oppression and the chaos of revolution. It’s a brave new world, but some things never change. Money still talks, power still corrupts, and trust is a rare and precious commodity.
Flight Plan: The hardest part of being on the run? Staying alive long enough to call for help.
The future will bring technological revolutions and political upheaval, but some things are timeless. Lovers meet, lives change, and letting go is never easy.
Joining in the Round: Any roof is better than none, even if it comes with strings attached.
Extraordinary: The monsters and freaks aren’t in the sideshow tents. They’re walking the aisles, and before the carnival is done, Valerie will be taking her place among them.
Powerhouse: Colonel Marcia Galloway leads Mercury Battalion, a military unit that offers sanctuary to society’s deadliest members. When a slip in concentration can level buildings or kill hundreds, survival depends on self-control. Her job is a challenge on the best of days. This day is anything but good.
Nightmares: Kristiana Stanislav never asked for the power to destroy anything or anyone who got in her way, but if she had to be a monster, she was going to do the job right.
Midnight Call: Another Rough Passages one-off tale. Far Horizons Magazine June 2014
Those Who Can: a fantasy short serialized across three issues of Far Horizons.
Knee-High to a Grasshopper: a fantasy short. Far Horizons January 2015
Readwave.com:I’ve published various & sundry short-shorts and essays on this contributor-driven site. Link leads to my profile & list of works.
Legacy of Ashes: A post-zombiepocalypse quest story, my first attempt at fiction of any kind. It cannot be revised to publication standards, but every time I revisited it, I saw a certain awkward charm I thought some might enjoy. So I posted it to Wattpad.com in all its un-proofed, awful glory.
(Trivia tidbit: This story holds the seeds of world-building that eventually became the setting for the Stories of the Restoration. I cannibalized history, institutions and even characters. Astute readers will easily spot the prototypes for Carl & Parker.)
